Perry Brahan (died June 2022[1]) was the visual effects designer on the Doctor Who television stories The Happiness Patrol and Silver Nemesis. He had earlier been an uncredited visual effects assistant on The Stones of Blood (INFO: The Stones of Blood) and Frontios. (INFO: Frontios) He was also part of Mike Tucker's model unit on Rose and Aliens of London/World War Three. (DWM 580)

Career[[edit] | [edit source]]

His earliest credited work seems to have been on the final episode of Douglas Adams' televised version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where he was a visual effects assistant. He then worked on several shows in the 1980s prior to coming to Doctor Who. Amongst these was a Peter Grimwade-directed episode of All Creatures Great and Small, featuring Peter Davison and Lynda Bellingham.

Most of his career, though, came after working on Doctor Who. From Nemesis, he immediately went to the 1988 French and Saunders Christmas special. He then worked on Keeping Up Appearances with Clive Swift, as well as a number of other comedy programmes. By the 2000s, he was exclusively credited as having provided various special effects services, as the industry was beginning to recognise Brahan's craft as "special", rather than "visual", effects. He also shifted away from series work, and tended to be involved more with tele-movies. In 2002 he was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for his work on the tele-film Night Flight. Another of his 21st century jobs, 2007's Stuart: A Life Backwards, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was also critically well received, though for acting rather than visual effects.
