Reading Gaol was a prison in Reading.
Oscar Wilde served a sentence at the prison in May 1897. At this time, the prison stuck to a routine of hard manual labour, one hours' exercise daily and a bowl of gruel every lunchtime. Orphan children were also locked up for snaring rabbits.
The prison had a hospital wing and a prison doctor. The acting governor was J. H. C. Mulberry. (COMIC: Bat Attack! [+]Loading...["Bat Attack! (comic story)"])
