Sam Jones's timeline was subject to alterations, being split in twain between "Blonde Sam's timeline" and "Dark Sam's timeline". According to one account, Faction Paradox were responsible for twisting "Dark Sam" into "Blonde Sam", rewriting her entire timeline to make her a perfect companion for the Eighth Doctor, (PROSE: Interference - Book One) while another suggested that Sam's timeline was altered as a direct result of her contact with the Eighth Doctor's still-unstable biodata shortly after his regeneration.
