The South Pacific Campaign was a theatre of the Pacific War during World War II, fought in South Pacific Ocean.
During the campaign, Captain Botega of the United States Navy found his ship was surrounded by Japanese torpedo boats. The ship was rescued from destruction when the Melovians abducted it from its own time and transported it to their planet, where it was made to battle other ships from different time periods for the Melovians' amusement. Although Botega's crew survived, imperfections in the Melovian transporter beam caused them to undergo metamorphosis. The Third Doctor negotiated a peaceful resettlement but they could not return home to Earth. (PROSE: Fugitives from Chance)
