Plague of the Cybermen (novel): Difference between revisions

* While the [[Cyberman (Pete's World)|Cybermen]] appeared in the [[Quick Reads]] novella ''[[Made of Steel]]'', this is their first appearance in a standard [[BBC New Series Adventures|BBC New Series Adventure]] novel. The [[Cyberman (Mondas)|the original Cybermen]], however, have featured in the past novels ''[[Killing Ground (novel)|Killing Ground]]'', ''[[Illegal Alien (novel)|Illegal Alien]]'' and ''[[Iceberg (novel)|Iceberg]]''.

* No regular [[companion]] is featured in this story, as is the case in [[COMIC]]: ''[[The Dalek Project]]'', [[PROSE]]: ''[[Dark Horizons (novel)|Dark Horizons]]'' and [[PROSE]]: ''[[The Dalek Generation (novel)|The Dalek Generation]]''. Olga serves as a one-off companion.

* It is not made clear which variant of Cyberman the Doctor encounters in this novel. The Doctor's mention of the [[Telos|Telosian]] [[Cyber-tomb]]s imply they are [[Cyberman (Mondas)|the ones]] from [[Mondas]]. However, the Cybermen are heard using the term "Delete" and have [[Cyber wrist blaster|blasters on the wrists]] (although they do not use them) like the [[Cybus Industries|Cybus]]  [[Cyberman (Pete's World)|variant]]. As seen on the cover, they are the same Cybermen of the [[Cyber Legion]]s from [[TV]]: ''[[A Good Man Goes to War]] '', [[TV]]: ''[[Closing Time (TV story)|Closing Time]]'' and [[GAME]]: ''[[The Eternity Clock (video game)|The Eternity Clock]]''. [[TV]]: ''[[Nightmare in Silver (TV story)|Nightmare in Silver]]'' gives some evidence to support the theory that the two types of Cybermen have become the same race but nothing explicit.

* No [[Cyber-Leader]], [[Cyber-Lord]], [[Cyber-controller|Cyber-Controller]] or [[Cyber-Planner]] is identified in the novel, marking the first time in the revived series and all of its expanded universe material that the Cybermen have not been led by a Cyberman designated a higher rank.

* Early in the book, the spelling "discoloration" is used. Later, it is spelled "discolo''u''ration". Similarly, while "Cyber Wolves" is used in one place, "cyber-wolves" is used in another.
