The road to the Thirteenth Doctor starts here! The first of three stand-alone stories featuring the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctor!
The Tenth Doctor has his work cut out when he encounters a lost spaceship... Whose crew is being absorbed by mysterious ghostly creatures! Everything is not how it seems, however, especially when disturbing facts about the crew come to light!
Each issue contains a serialised short from the creative team behind the new Thirteenth Doctor ongoing series!

- Entertainment Weekly's article exclusively announcing The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor included a textless version of Cover A by Robert Hack bar the header, BBC and Doctor Who logos, and The Tenth Doctor subtitle, with an "Entertainment Exclusive" watermark in the bottom-left corner.[3] Other sites reporting the news would use either this version,[4] or a version without Entertainment Weekly's watermark.[5][6][7] This textless version is available from Titan Comics' webpage for this issue, as well as textless versions of Covers B and C by Will Brooks and Christopher Jones respectively.[1]
- A SyfyWire news exclusive had a preview of this issue, along with an interview with James Peaty.[2] The news article has since been removed.
- It was announced on 13 July 2018[8][9] that there would be an exclusive cover of this issue for San Diego Comic Con 2018 by Kelly Yates, with Jody Houser and him signing copies at Titan Comics' booth #5537.[8][10][11][12][13][14]
- Blogtor Who's article on Titan Comics' plans for New York Comic Con 2018 included a version of the San Diego Comic Con 2018 exclusive cover that had larger pixel dimensions, was more saturated, and included a barcode, but with slightly pixelated text.[15]
- Rachael Stott's character design of the Thirteenth Doctor was included with this issue. It was used again for the Gallifreyan High Council of Retailers cover variant of Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1.
