Parallel version of UNIT?[[edit source]]
Nothing indicates they were a parallel version of UNIT, as the lead now suggests. In fact, I think it's fairly directly stated (and, obviously, also inherent in the name) that they support the republican regime of the UK (or GB or England — the actual country isn't made clear). They're an internal security force, like the SS or the Stazi. They're the complete opposite of UNIT, which is a global scientific and military organization under the aegis of the United Nations that exists to study alien life forms and other "unusual" phenomena, to assess whether they present a multinational threat, and then to protect against them if they do. The closing episodes of Inferno, when the Brigade Leader totally loses it, makes very clear that the RSF have about zero commonality with UNIT.
