• The Capitol, if it is intended to be the same building, has varied greatly in appearance over the years. In its first appearance in The Deadly Assassin, the Capitol seemed to be underground, built into the rock. It was very dark and suffused with a stagnant green glow.

• In its next appearance, The Invasion of Time, the Capitol had changed drastically; it was now much brighter and less spartan.

• Gone was the pseudo-Gothic ambience of The Deadly Assassin - the Capitol now appeared similar to many other "plastic corridor" planets in Doctor Who.

• This general look remained throughout the remainder of the classic series: Arc of Infinity reduced the sense of scale, while The Five Doctors made everything slightly glossier.

• Unrestrained by budget, spin-off novels, notably The Infinity Doctors, greatly expanded the Capitol. In this book, the city is huge, with the hourglass-shaped Citadel being the building at the centre. The citizens of Gallifrey travel round the city in aircars, and the entire Capitol is shielded from the outside world by an opaque dome.

• In the revived series, starting with The Sound of Drums, the Citadel is depicted similarly to in the novels, although it is smaller and the dome is now transparent. The centre of the Citadel resembles a TARDIS console and time rotor, although this may be unintentional. The End of Time showed the interior of the Citadel: expansive but minimalist spaces with metal walkways, a darkened conference room, and a huge council chamber with Time Lords standing on suspended platorms.

Capitol v. citadel

This article presents Capitol and Citadel as interchangeable names...until the last paragraph where a clear difference between the two is stated. Any differences between Capitol and Citadel need to be clearly outlined. Anoted ☎ 19:11, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

Crashed Dalek saucers

User:Shambala108 removed the bit in bold before I was able to, but I want to expand on why else this may have happened along with the reason given in Shambala108's edit.

By the final day of the War, the Citadel was severely damaged by Dalek Saucers. The crashed saucers remained on the surface next to the Citadel. (TV: The End of Time)

At this point Time Lords got rid of the crashed saucers.

I respect it's trying to acknowledge and/or reconcile the assumed visual continuity error regarding the exterior of the Capitol in The End of Time with Day of the Doctor, but it makes absolutely no sense to say "by the last day, Dalek saucers crashlanded next to the TARDIS" and follow it with "at this point they had been rid of". -- Tybort (talk page) 20:28, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

Capital vs Capitol

The article should use the word "capital" instead of "capitol" According to the dictionary, the capitol is a building in which the legislative body of government meets while a capital is the city or town that functions as the seat of government and administrative centre of a country or region.

This article refers to a city and not a single building of government. Based on this, it should be a capital, not capitol – The preceding unsigned comment was added by OllieJ6 (talk • contribs) .

But Capital is simply incorrect as its referred to as the Capitol consistently. Also, only admins are allowed to move pages by policy. --Borisashton ☎ 01:10, July 25, 2019 (UTC)
