Hartnell story or game show?[[edit source]]
No, it’s quite clearly referring to the game show. If he meant he was watching Doctor Who, he would have just said “Doctor Who”. We all know what “The Chase” means. Sure, the main part of the article can be “ambiguous”, as per our “no real world info” policy, but this is the “behind the scenes” section. I mean, it’s not even like those are the only two things in the world called “The Chase”, so unless wanna list everything from here, I suggest we really don’t need the bit about it being ambiguous as to whether he meant the game show or the Doctor Who TV story. If the author intended or even considered the latter, I will… well I don’t know how to finished tus sentence because they just plain didn’t. NightmareofEden ☎ 11:06, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
I mean, I get that this is a wiki ABOUT Doctor Who, so I can understand one’s mind going there, but not everything is a Doctor Who reference, not even in Doctor Who itself. NightmareofEden ☎ 11:07, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- That's all well and dandy, but I would disagree with you. I do believe it is ambiguous, and while it is more likely Nardole is referencing the game show, it isn't 100% clear. Might've it been better to have discussed the changes you enacted here first instead of just doing them? 13:11, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Fwiw I agree with NightmareofEden's edits and I don't think it's out-of-line to make changes and then leave an explanatory note on a talk page. – n8 (☎) 13:30, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yep, I agree with Eden's reasoning. It's clearly a reference to the game show and that's how I wrote the article when I created it. Given I Am the Doctor's lack of metafiction, I would sooner believe the line was referencing the Star Trek episode or, to a lesser extent, any of the many films named The Chase, than Doctor Who. - I agree that it seems clear from context that it's not the Hartnell-era story we're meant to think of. Per T:NO RW, we can't derive that it's a game show without an explicit DWU source for that, but we should write in guarded language with the fact that it's "meant" to be the game show in the back of our minds, and focus on that in the "Behind the scenes" section.
- And yes, User:NateBumber is correct that it's alright to, in Wikipedia terms, "Be Bold", then only bring the issue to the talk page if there is further disagreement. It would also have been proper to post a talk page message and, only after a discussion had happened and a consensu been reached, make the edits; but the quicker way is perfectly allowed. What isn't allowed is the specific situation of already making your changes while a discussion has been opened but hasn't reached consensus yet. Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 14:48, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
