Within these articles are detailed descriptions of what should be included within various articles both in-universe and out of universe.

Lead[[edit source]]

Every article, regardless of type, must have a lead, as outlined by our Manual of Style.

Out of universe / real world[[edit source]]

Articles on specific stories, novels, or individuals should have the appropriate infobox and format:

  • All stories now use the same infobox for stories. See the links on that page for how to adapt it to TV stories, novels, comics, etc. There are also format articles for:

In-universe[[edit source]]

There are a variety of sources of information to write in-universe articles from and as such there is a somewhat different approach that is less constrained because of the sometimes limited amounts of information on in-universe subjects.

See Guide to in-universe writing for more detailed information on how to write in-universe articles.
  • Most articles on individuals (companions, enemies, background characters) should use the Individual Infobox.

Places, objects, theories and concepts[[edit source]]

Layout for these should include an infobox (in the case of the object, see Template:Infobox Object) followed by an encyclopaedic entry with any information from the Doctor Who universe in the article.

Example articles[[edit source]]

Contradictory evidence[[edit source]]

Often on in-universe articles there will be instances of contradictory evidence. In cases where there are several accounts that cannot co-exist, both should be presented with a lead in sentence along the lines of

One account stated...

or

In one instance...

Information from sources that are valid according to this wiki's policies should not be discounted as apocryphal just because they do not "fit in" with an account from a different source (such as a TV story contradicting a novel or an audio contradicting a TV story etc).

Categories[[edit source]]

Utilising categories to their potential is sometimes tricky, as many of the categories on this wiki contain several sub-categories. These exist to better organise the information on this wiki. The following guides aim to allow you to explore and get a better idea of the categories that are used on this wiki.
