The Space Pirates was the twentieth adventure in The Second Doctor Sourcebook, adapted from the TV story of the same name.

The plot follows the television story, with variance depending on how it is played.

In the first scenario, the adventurers visit the lawless space frontier and help a small outpost threatened by an enemy.
In the second scenario, Argonite shortages lead to Earth Government fracturing between the old inner world and new frontier worlds, leading to Earth Government hiring the Judoon. The adventurers arrive on a luxury cruiser which has been caught smuggling argonite. The crew are unaware of the smuggling, but will be lethally prosecuted by the Judoon if things continue as they are.
In the third scenario, Earth prospectors discover a planet rich in argonite which has a secret Cyberman vault. The characters arrive after the prospectors disappear, and must prove their innocence while also stopping the Cybermen.
