Theory:Doctor Who television discontinuity and plot holes/Meglos

Theory page
You are exploring the Discontinuity Index, a place where any details or rumours about unreleased stories are forbidden.
Please discuss only those whole stories which have already been released, and obey our spoiler policy.

This page is for discussing the ways in which Meglos doesn't fit well with other DWU narratives. You can also talk about the plot holes that render its own, internal narrative confusing.

Remember, this is a forum, so civil discussion is encouraged. However, please do not sign your posts. Also, keep all posts about the same continuity error under the same bullet point. You can add a new point by typing:

* This is point one.
::This is a counter-argument to point one.
:::This is a counter-argument to the counter-argument above
* This is point two.
::Explanation of point two.
::Further discussion and query of point two.

... and so on.
  • In part one, when talking about the time loop, the Doctor says that's that third time it has happened, yet it is actually the fourth - original -> 1st repeated -> 2nd repeated on viewing screen -> 3rd repeated.
So he's actually right: "That's the third time that's happened." i.e. that's the third time events have repeated themselves.
  • Grugger says that he lost 50 per cent of his six man crew on Tigella, but there's more than three of them when they arrive on Zolpha Thura.
His limited numeracy does not extend to being able to calculate percentages properly.
  • In part one the Doctor says that he wasn't allowed to see the dodecahedron on his previous visit, but in episode three he remembers seeing it.
Since when has the Doctor let the rules get in the way of his curiosity? Just because he wasn't supposed to see it doesn't mean he didn't.
  • Why doesn't the Doctor recognise Lexa as being similar in appearance to Barbara Wright, especially given he later recognises Gwen Cooper as being similar in appearance to Gwyneth.
Gwen lives on the same part of Earth as Gwyneth and a mere century later, enough for him to consider the highly likely connection worth mentioning. There's no reason to suppose that he didn't think, of Lexa "That's funny, she looks a bit like Miss Wright, I wonder what Chattleborough.... Chesterton would make of that?" , but, as they live on entirely different planets and almost certainly aren't related, not consider it worth mentioning. After all, otherwise, all the people in the universe and at UNIT who are played by Max Faulkner would have got terribly bored of saying "No, no relation" to the Doctor.
  • The Doctor removes his scarf and greatcoat on Zolfa-Thura and leaves in the TARDIS without retrieving them, but is wearing them again in the final scene on Tigella.
He may have had an identical scarf and greatcoat in the TARDIS.
