About the User[[edit] | [edit source]]

all my favourites and so on.[[edit] | [edit source]]

To be filled in when I'm in the mood but I'll start with saying my first experience was 15 minutes into episode 3 of Terror of the Autons and have never ever stopped loving the show.

Projects I am looking into possibly working on:[[edit] | [edit source]]

I am much better with concieving ideas than I am at realising them so by no means is anything here considered "my territory" or "my dibs" or any other form of exclusive rights. Anything I say here is open to anybody else contributing or taking over or otherwise, provided they sign their entries

Catchephrases, idiosychronastisties, running gags and so on:[[edit] | [edit source]]

A real world perspective page identifying long running inter-Doctors references. The idea started with 'When I say run, run!', a line many of the Doctors have used starting with the Second Doctor. The line is used both as comedy in the moment and as an ongoing humor device for longtime fans. The origins of the idea can be found on these pages:Talk: Warriors of the Deep and Forum: The Tenth Doctor's "Well?"

Definition for inclusion:[[edit] | [edit source]]

This will have to be really well put. Something that will narrowly define a valid entry yet retain flexibility for a variety of input. The discussion page of said article will help a lot in deciding witch new contributions should be retained and which shouldn't. For instance: "Ex-ter-ma-nate" is too watery and would contain no different a list than the list of appearances of The Daleks. Mannerisms of one Doctor that are emulated by one other but not two or more other Doctor's would not fit the scope of the article and would belong in any particular story's references section. One-season long running gags such as the tenth doctor and donna saying 'we're not a couple' would either not qualify or would need a catagory listed as 'short term'. Ginger Beer is used too sparcely and Jelly Babies has it's own page, though the latter would fit if it could be seen as "a wink and a nod" and not simply "look, there's jelly babies again." Of course once such a page exists it is not up to any one person to define it's contents, hence the need for a narrow yet flexible definition. All the above examples might be fit onto the page catagories other than "ongoing long term references/meta reference". The proposed page would prolly benifit from a spell in the forum.

layout:[[edit] | [edit source]]

A clearly defined item with room for bulleted or indented occurences.

Catagories should be Section Heading 2[[edit] | [edit source]]

such as "catchphrases", "running gags", "repeated manerisms", "frequent occurences", "thematic shots or backdrops"...

Specifics should be Section Heading 3[[edit] | [edit source]]

such as "when I say run, run!" or "reverse the polarity" or "I was there/met famous him/said to famous her"... Be sure to include the background to the specific such as "Started by Patrick Troughton this line was used at least once by almost every other Doctor and in multiple mediums [medias? mediae?] "

Section Heading 4 - by media? Or by Character/Doctor?[[edit] | [edit source]]
  • occurence (entered by oldest known occurence first), by whom and to whom followed by citation
  • another occurence (be specific as to the variant used, such as "I reversed the polarity" as opposed to "I changed the polarity of the neutron flow").
  • yet again.

Alternative layout:[[edit] | [edit source]]

Section Heading 2 should be the main entry[[edit] | [edit source]]

such as "When I say run, run!", or Not Showing Adversary untill last shot of Episode one, or Regeneration Episodes

Followed by an indented discription of type/catagory/characteristic....
Section Heading 3 should be "occurences" with bullets[[edit] | [edit source]]
  • Later added as an early occurence (see media-prefix: story name)
  • Earliest known occurence (as above)
  • A later occurence (as above)

Well, that's a start anyway.

plot outline for "Warrior's Gate"[[edit] | [edit source]]

It hasn't been written yet and I can see the DVD from where I'm sitting. This will require nutrients and a six pack of Ginger Pop.

The War on Commas[[edit] | [edit source]]

I have seen some pages, especially the plot outlines, which have excessive and misplaced use of commas. I changed one page extensively and then started to question myself. Possibly it is a difference of writting style and I should not have changed the text as presented. I am open to criticism and have no problem undoing the edit.

The page in question is Jo Grant and I started a discussion of the edit on it's talk page

On the whole I am in favour of trying to make the pages read well and some of them could use a good, well, editor.

The War is on hold. User: CzechOut has put forward excellent criticsm of my misplaced good intentions. I still feel there are many instances where there are too many commas, or possibly clauses, in many sentences; however, I will have to study the subject in depth before being able to continue with any actions or observations. Many thanks to CzechOut.
