Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!
Thing is, though, to play the game, you do need to be logged in.
Don't get us wrong: you don't need to have a registered account to make a lot of great edits around here. But you may find that there are good reasons to create an account. For a start, we could call you by a name instead of 69.125.134.86.
Even if you decide not to register, you should be aware that we've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of users whose job it is to help you
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. -- CzechOut (Talk) 15:24, 2012 December 17
Shutting down conversations[[edit source]]
I don't decide to close conversations on the basis of who started them, so I wasn't deliberately trying to stifle you. I don't particularly take note of who starts threads when deciding whether to close them.
It's important to understand that our forums are not like forums you might find at a place like Gallifrey Base. They aren't a "free-for-all" discussion area. Their principle function is to allow for project collaboration. If the thread doesn't obviously have to do with the editing of a page or a policy question, it'll probably get closed pretty quickly. The Reference Desk is for asking for specific facts that will then be used to write articles.
The notion that forums should be used with editing the wiki as the main goal is clearly established in the policy T:NOT BOARD. Gy closing your threads I was merely upholding a basic tenet of this wiki. Although I suppose I can understand how someone new to the wiki might think that's unfriendly, I just see it as upholding a rule of this wiki that's been around for easily more than five years.
I'm sorry that you felt like you were being "targeted for deletion" and hope you will still find our wiki an interesting place to be. You might find The Howling the kind of free-for-all discussion area that you prefer. But please remember that The Howling is the only place you can talk about speculation or stories that have not been released. If you are going to stick around, it's really important — this year in particular — that you post in accordance with our spoiler policy.

forums[[edit source]]
I really appreciated your comment of support on my talk page. I was really surprised by the tone on the forums, and thought for a bit that maybe it was just me and that I was reading more into it then was really there. This came from wondering why the hell I was the only one who seemed to see it. I've since read some threads that I didn't participate in and was just floored at how it seemed like the community accepted certain people being outright insulting. I'm finding it easier to just avoid the forums and talk pages unless absolutely necessary. While I love the communal nature of wikis and normally would participate vigorously in discussion and turn to people for advice and mentoring, I find it easier to shy away from this community as much as possible. Anyway, I really appreciate your taking the time to come to my talk page and let me know I wasn't alone. Anoted ☎ 02:03, April 15, 2013 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an anonymous user who has not created an account yet, or who does not use it. We therefore have to use the numerical IP address to identify them. Such an IP address can be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users.
