Welcome to the Tardis:About NancyDrew4ever

Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Image policy...?[[edit source]]

Well, it's hard to explain really. Well, for one, we really don't add publicity photos around here. We prefer to use legitimate images from sorces. Galleries are almost always not allowed. To get the full explanation, I suggest you contact User:CzechOut. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 05:47, October 7, 2012 (UTC)

Not everyone needs a biography[[edit source]]

Unless the actor (or whoever) is a major recurring contributor to the DWU, there's really no need to go into much detail about their careers. A short snippet of what they're known for outside of their Doctor Who related work is usually fine. Memnarc 09:03, October 7, 2012 (UTC)

It's not really about what I want. It's just the policy here. Memnarc 21:22, October 7, 2012 (UTC)

Categories[[edit source]]

Hi! I've noticed you've been adding non-existent categories to many pages on this wiki. I suggest you take a look at Special:Categories and Special:CategoryTree before you add any more. Thanks! Shambala108 16:37, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

If you're an admin at 2 other wikis, then surely you know that every wiki has its own rules. Everyone who has commented on your edits is trying to help you avoid making edits that will have to be reverted. In the end, it's up to you how you choose to react to constructive criticism, but just be aware that no one is trying to chase you away, we're just trying to help. If you do stay around, I recommend that you browse the "help" sections of this wiki and ask around if you're not sure something is allowed here. Shambala108 19:18, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia[[edit source]]

Hi there! Please stop copying information from Wikipedia. This is a violation of our policies. Continue to do so and you will receive a short block. I would suggest you take some time and read the Manual of Style before continuing editing, just so you are familiar with our policies. Thanks. MM/Want to talk? 10:29, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

Expansion and additions[[edit source]]

Hi, I've been looking at your questions, comments and responses to other editors' messages on your talk page, and thought I'd drop in and explain a little further.

  • Expansion. Yes, we want to expand the wiki. But with meaningful, useful and unique information. Adding categories that are not part of our category structure as Shambala108 has pointed out does not help this. Adding Wikipedia content also, as Mini-mitch has said does not help in building a unique wiki. I've noticed many of your category additions seem to be influenced by Wikipedia, something which we are not and are not trying to be.
  • Galleries, promo images and wallpapers. Please. Just stop with these. For starters you've not added licensing to any of the images you've uploaded, so all of your uploaded images have been deleted. A series of wallpaper images does not contribute significantly to meaningful content. Some promo images are used on various articles, but not in the quantities that you've been uploading. The images should compliment the information.
  • Admin on other wikis. As Shambala108 has said, as you are an admin (and a founder on the Famous Composers Wiki) you must understand that each wiki has its own rules and policies that apply. This wiki is covers a huge amount of content, which means that we also have certain styles and processes in place to handle all that information. We've tried to make our policies and Tardis Manual as detailed and helpful as possible.

Finally, I would suggest, before adding any further edits or images you take a look around at our wiki, look and read some of the pages and see how images are used and dealt with on this wiki, even go to the image pages and see how they're categories. Do as Shambala108 said and look at the category tree for this wiki, or simply find a page and look and follow through the categories on that page. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:00, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

Pictures[[edit source]]

It is highly unusual for our admin to fail to give a deletion reason. I see that you recently uploaded a picture about Barbara Wright that I personally deleted. The deletion reason can be seen here, if you click on the "notification" button in the upper right hand corner of the editing window.

I don't see that you have any other pic uploads in 2013, you gave no diffs for me to look at, and you have no edits of any kind at Liz Shaw. Indeed, your edits throughout 2013 have been minor, with today's message on my talk page being by far greater than all your other 2013 contributions combined. I'm therefore forced to conclude that this Barbara pic was your only actual concern. After re-examining the image, I find no cause now to reverse myself. You clearly violated local image policies.

Being a "free" wiki doesn't mean "anything goes". It just means there's no charge for joining, or for having the privilege of editing. Local wikis have their own rules. Ours are spelled out in exhaustive detail, particularly as regards pictures. Please read T:ICC for the highlights and T:GTI for an illustrated guide, as everything you've ever uploaded to this wiki has now been deleted for violations of those rules.

Liz Shaw images[[edit source]]

Hi! Please read Tardis:Guide to images and Tardis:Image use policy before you add any more images to articles. We have very specific guidelines of what kinds of pictures belong in infoboxes and how pictures should look on a page. I've rolled back your recent edits to the Liz Shaw page. Please also look at Czechout's explanations for why he removed your edits. Thanks! Shambala108 00:23, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
