Vanessa Winters, (PROSE: Torchwood: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Torchwood: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"]) or Venessa, was an individual who was involved with the first trade between the British government and the 456 in 1965.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
At a meeting point in Scotland, Vanessa informed Jack Harkness of the 456's offer: a cure for a new strain of Indonesian influenza in return for twelve children. She told Jack that he was chosen to complete the handover as he didn't care for the children, and that if he didn't exchange the children for a flu antivirus, the flu strain would mutate and kill twenty-five million. She accompanied Jack to Holly Tree Lodge, where he collected the twelve children including Clement McDonald. Stationed in a nearby British Army vehicle, Vanessa witnessed the children, bar Clem, walking into a bright light as they were taken.
Following the handover, Vanessa received the vaccine information on the 456 radio frequency. She speculated that the taken children may be in paradise like the 456 promised, although Jack disagreed. (TV: Children of Earth: Day Four [+]Loading...["Children of Earth: Day Four (TV story)"])
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
Venessa's full name is unstated in Children of Earth: Day Four [+]Loading...["Children of Earth: Day Four (TV story)"]. Torchwood: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Torchwood: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"] would reveal her full name as "Vanessa Winters", although the spelling of Vanessa noticeably differs from the credits of Children of Earth.
The character of Venessa only appears in a flashback scene at the beginning of Children of Earth: Day Four. Her fate by 2009 is never revealed, and despite her prominent role in the 1965 trade, her name does not appear on John Frobisher's Blank Page.
