You were at some point tricked by Godfather Sisyphus into purchasing a copy of The Book of the War from Sister-in-Waiting Annie on eBay and using the book in a ritual to turn Sisyphus into a conceptual entity, merging him with the Greek myth of Sisyphus. In punishment for this, both you and Sisyphus were trapped in the Boulevard, inside a resetting time loop - no matter what you did the two of you would never escape.
