- Maximilien Robespierre is born in Arras, France. The First Doctor and his companions will be witnesses to the Thermidor Coup against Robespierre in 1794 (DW: The Reign of Terror).
- Horatio Nelson, whom the Doctor will cite as a personal friend, is born (DW: The Sea Devils).
- Clockwork Robots from the 51st century attack Versaille on the night of Madame de Pompadour's 37th birthday, as forewarned by Rose five years previously. The Doctor rescues Madame and begins to make plans for living out his life in the 18th Century, as he has no way to return to the TARDIS. When Reinette shows him a way back, he offers her a chance to travel in the TARDIS and promises to come back for her. It is the last time she sees him (DW: The Girl in the Fireplace).
