Joy was an American who worked in the White House. Emerging from a toilet cubicle, she saw one of the Silence. She assumed its face to be a Star Trek mask and asked if it was Ben. When she looked away, she forgot what she had seen. She looked again and repeated her actions, despite the warnings of Amy Pond. The Silence killed Joy with an electrical discharge from its hand, disintegrating her. A horrified Amy asked why the Silence had killed Joy. It told Amy her name, having apparently killed her for no reason other than intimidation. (DW: The Impossible Astronaut)
