Val worked in Sanderson & Grainger, the shop where people were being converted into Cybermen. When the Eleventh Doctor worked there, she, like the rest of the employees, became quite fond of him. She gossiped with the Doctor and thought Craig Owens and he were a couple and good daddies to Craig's son, Alfie Owens, which the Doctor also mistook for a term meaning "companion." She told the Doctor about the silver rat thing. It is unknown if Craig ever corrected her on her mistaken assumption. (DW: Closing Time)
