{{Disputed}} is for flagging statements that are possible untrue and so need verifying. This contrasts with both {{fact}} and {{facts}}, which are used to highlight sourcing issues.

Usage

This template should be used in instances where statements seem to contradict your own knowledge and so may be untrue. Flagging them with this template allow for checks to be made to ensure they are factual.

For example, you may come across something like this:

In 1985, the Sixth Doctor stopped the Sontarans accessing time travel.

Now, if you were unsure of the truth behind this statement, you would add the template to the end of the sentence, like so:

In 1985, the Sixth Doctor stopped the Sontarans accessing time travel.[disputed statement]

Summary

All in all, this templates primary purposes are:

  • To warn readers that a statement in the article may not be accurate
  • To alert editors that additional or different sources need to be found.

Categorisation

When pages have this template applied, they are automatically placed into category:Articles with statements that are disputed.
