At long last, Wikia are upgrading the core MediaWiki software that powers this site, and every other Wikia wiki. We'll be going from version 1.16.5 to 1.19.x. This will bring a lot of subtle changes, most of them highly overdue. An overview of these changes can be found at this Staff blog.

It's unknown precisely when these changes will take place. As of 12 June, the switchover is in a kind of "beta" test, with changes being administered to some select, smaller wikis. As one of Wikia's largest wikis, we have been placed at the back of the queue. We have only an estimate that our upgrade will come before the end of July.
Heavy editors to the site will probably know that the change has come within a day or so of implementation. But if you want absolute confirmation, you can just look at the version number below.1.39.8
