The Recruiter was an alien war machine that was programmed to find a battle with the Ceracai. It was damaged in the fighting and crashed on Q’ell while it was in the middle of a local war. It then forced the trench war to continue, justifying that warfare acted as a spur to technological prowess. The recruiter did this by using its teleport systems, with the aid of the psychic Q'ell, to transport children, and then conditioning them to fight in the war.
