Black Orchid was a book of his travels written by George Cranleigh. It was published in 1925. His mother, Madge Cranleigh, gave a copy to the Fifth Doctor as a going-away present (DW: Black Orchid), which he enjoyed and thought of as very interesting. (DW: Earthshock)

On 14 July 1930, the BBC broadcast a television adaptation of The Man With the Flower in His Mouth by Luigi Pirandello. This was the first television drama to be produced in the United Kingdom.
