FTL Capability

We do not know if a transmat beam can travel faster than light, however the ability of Dalek transmats to transport people from Earth to the Dalek Imperial fleet at the edge of the Sol system suggests that some may be able to. (DW: Bad Wolf)

T-Mat

The distinction, other then the name, between transmat and T-mat remains unknown. It is likely that "T-Mat" is a brand name for a transmat, just as Xerox is a brand name for photocopying. T-Mat specifically stands for 'Travel mat', however the similarity to other transmats (with the point to point system) suggests it is the same system. Interestingly although it seems a Closed-ended system, it was possible to T-Mat outside the normal destinations (specifically halfway between the Earth and the Moon), however since that was intended as an execution its possible safety concerns weren't applicable.
