Vulcan was the Roman god of fire and the forge. Lucius Caecilius Iucundus considered the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius as a sign of Vulcan's fury. Later on, as Lucius Caecilius Iucundus and his family watch Pompeii burn, Lucius says that Vulcan must be enraged, and ends up coining the word "volcano". (TV: The Fires of Pompeii)
