It is frequently reported on Doctor Who sites(as well as Wikipedia!) that the War Chief dies in this story. However, there is nothing that suggests that. Quite the opposite in fact. The crux of the matter is of course that The War Chief underwent a partial regeneration after the events of The War Games, and is now a deformed man, unable to utilise his remaining regenerations. However, the last mention of the character in the book states "Ace saw, just for a second, a young man, tall, dark, and satanically handsome, reaching up to her... The door closed, the TARDIS dematerialized, and they were gone." The young man is clearly the War Chief. "Young, tall, dark, and satanically handsome" is NOT the description of the deformed character earlier in the book. Thus the explosion in the Drachensberg Tower clearly and unambiguously triggered a regeneration. The Doctor and Ace immediately leave. And the War Chief has survived(NOT died!) and regenerated! Yet, certain factually dubious websites and guide books state that he "died" here "for good"! 41.133.0.18talk to me 15:13, October 28, 2012 (UTC)
