- David Warner played Claudius in the 1972 stage adaptation.
- Derek Jacobi played the role of Claudius in the 1976 BBC serial and Augustus in the 2010 BBC Radio adaptation. He also narrated two abridged audiobook versions.
- Tom Goodman-Hill played Claudius in the 2010 version.
- Brian Blessed played Augustus in the 1976 serial.
- George Baker played Tiberius in the 1976 serial.
