Adipose
The fat just walks away.
The Adipose are a race of vaguely humanoid blobs of fat.
Biology
Young Adipose are short, marshmallow-shaped beings, composed entirely of fat. They have two eyes and a mouth on their face, two arms with webbed hands and two stumpy legs. However, this may not be representative of the entire species. To grow, Adipose consume more fat. They can convert other material into fat for consumption; however, this practice was not good for their health. Alternative materials include the bone, organs, and muscles and many other human tissues. (DW: Partners in Crime)
Life Cycle
The original life cycle of the Adipose is unknown, but once they became a space-faring race they would seed other planets with Adipose seed (despite being in direct contravention to the Shadow Proclamation) which would develop into young Adipose inside another lifeform and escape during the night - although in cases of emergency they could all be released at once, resulting in the death of the lifeform. Technology
Adipose technology includes the pills used on Earth to germinate young Adipose and Nursery Ships equipped with levitation beams. (DW: Partners in Crime)
History
At some point in their history, the Adipose became a space-faring race. After the Adipose First Family lost their nursery planet, they hired one of a species known as wet nurses, this particular wet nurse began seeding Earth with Adipose seed. On Earth they set up Adipose Industries and disguised the Adipose seeds in the form of weight-loss pills, making humans as surrogates. The pill was gaining over a million customers quickly. Matron Cofelia is the proper name of the wet nurse hired by the First Adiposian Family. Matron Cofelia, whose pseudonym is Miss Foster, created Adipose Industries. When the Doctor and Donna Noble discover the alien secret behind the supposed diet pills Matron Cofelia orders the immediate birthing of all Adipose. The Adipose Nursery Ship collected the babies then ordered the death of Miss Foster for her crimes, as breeding on a Level 5 planet is an illegal act under the Shadow Proclamation. The Adipose originally came from the planet Adipose III, which was taken by Davros, convincing the Adipose to set up breeding grounds on Earth (DW: "The Stolen Earth"), (DW: Partners in Crime)
Behind the Scenes
- Adipose is, in reality, fat tissue of the Human body, which is what the Adipose are named after. The real adipose is mentioned in the scientific explanation Miss Foster presents.
- The Mill did a picture of the Adipose specifically for Radio Times showing the Adipose harassing a taxi similar to the way they do on the episode.
- The Mill made stress balls for themselves designed in the image of the Adipose.
- The computer-generated Adipose came in two forms. Adipose in the background of many shots were created with a form of artificial intelligence to prevent the need of having to individually animate each individual Adipose, but the ones in the foreground were hand animated.
