The Fifth Planet was a planet in the Sol system destroyed by the Time Lords. Here, evolution had caused the birth of the perfect predator organism, the Fendahl.
Circa 12,000,000 BCE, the Time Lords removed it from the Sol system by placing it in a time loop. The Sol system asteroid belt now occupies its former orbit, 107M miles out from Earth, between Mars and Jupiter. (DW: Image of the Fendahl)
- The exact relationship between the time looped planet and the asteroid belt remains unclear, given that the Time Lords did not physically break apart the Fifth Planet.
As part of their war with The Enemy the (future) Time Lords had planned to undo the time barriers around the Fifth planet and release the Fendahl, using a fleet of War TARDISes. (EDA: The Taking of Planet 5)
