How is john hurt related to dr who?
- Number one, that comment violates our spoiler policy. Number two, this page is presently entirely in-universe. He was mentioned in the narrative of a Torchwood episode; that's how he related to the DWU!

My theory
I know this is speculation. But instead of being an "8.5" or the "Real 9th Doctor", I reckon John Hurt will be playing an older Eighth Doctor. In the flashbacks, there was no Eighth Doctor, in the time stream sequence at the end when they were running past, there was no Eighth Doctor.
This way, none of the regenerations get messed around and from a story perspective it can still make perfect sense, not to mention, the costuming is a mix between 8 and 9. So that's my theory, John Hurt is playing an older 8th Doctor.

It all makes sense now. John Hurt is the Lost Doctor. I've heard about this rumor earlier but this makes it clear. John Hurt is the true 9th Doctor in between the 8th Doctor and Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor. However, I love how they were table to incorporate this game-changing revelation. In the episode, it's stated tha Hurt's Doctor didn't act in the name of the Doctor. This means that while this makes Eccleston the 10th incarnation, Tennant the 11th incarnation, and Smith the 12th incarnation, they still remain as the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctors respectively. It's also cool how this was the meaning of the episode's title. The title didn't mean the Doctor's true name but rather the Doctor's incarnations acting in the name of the Doctor, save for Hurt's incarnation.
Split
Shouldn't this article be primary about the DWU John Hurt, with the real-world Hurt in a BTS section? We always give preference to in-universe articles. An alternative — which I find preferable — would be a split between John Hurt (in-universe) and John Hurt (actor) (real-world actor who portrays the Doctor). Or something along those lines.

If we don't split it (and I'm not really in favor of splitting), the in-universe info should take precedence, and the real-world info should be placed at the end of the article, in the "behind the scenes" section. - I've taken a stab at writing this article in an in-universe perspective and putting the real world stuff in a behind the scenes section. Let me know what you think. There's very little on John Hurt in-universe and I can see why splitting this article would be problematic. In-universe is preferred over real-world, and most people will likely be looking for real world John Hurt. But I'm not sure how great of a job we can in a combined article, especially because the infobox has to be moved down. So the question is whether or not this article is too awkward and whether we'd be better off splitting it, even though in-universe Hurt would get preference. Anoted ☎ 16:15, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
