Who John Hurt really is[[edit source]]

I just watched the Name of the Doctor last night, and while it did not completely confirm my suspicions, it certainly is compatible with them. When I watched the previous episode, Nightmare in Silver, my spoiler alarm went off very early on. I think John Hurt's character is the person for whom Porridge said he felt sorry. The person who had to push the button to end the Cyber war against humanity, at a terrrible price. They spent too much time on it for it not to come back at some point. John Hurt's dialogue, that he had no choice, and did it for peace matches up correctly. And at the end of Porridge's line, who should appear but The Doctor.

All this stuff about the time war may be important in terms of where he fits in the chronology of the Doctor, but thats not what Hurt is about. Besides, a lot of the discussion seems to be based on the idea that the Doctor committed genocide by blowing up Galifrey. As I understand it, it was the Dalek's who were destroying it, the Time Lords were about to use the Final Sanction of Rasillon, and the Doctor stopped it all by putting the war in a Time lock.Phil Stone 06:14, June 3, 2013 (UTC)
