The Daleks

Static electricity was utilised by the Daleks in their city on Skaro, rather than using an internal power source they picked up power through the floor. The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan realised this by the smell they made when moving, and attributed it to dodgems at a fairground. They disabled a Dalek by pushing it onto a Thal cloak, insulating the Dalek base from the electricity. They then used the empty Dalek shell to inifiltrate the Dalek city.(DW: The Daleks) Edward Waterfield also experimented with static electricity. (DW: The Evil of the Daleks) Earlier versions of the Daleks were able to use discs on their backs to supply them with static electricity which needed recharging every once in a while. (DW: The Dalek Invasion of Earth) Scientist Lesterson on the planet Vulcan found a capsule in a mercury swamp and opened it to find three dormant Daleks and brought them back to life. The colony which he worked in did not have metal floors for the Daleks to extract static electricity from them, so they laid power cables for them to use so they could exterminate all the people in the colony. (DW: The Power of the Daleks) It is unclear when the Daleks evolved beyond the need for static electricity.

Other Species

The Trods were also powered by static electricity. (TVC: The Trodos Tyranny)
