Bridget Jones was a fictional character that was popular on Earth in the late 20th and early 21st century. Created in 1995 by journalist Helen Fielding as a character to use in a series of columns for the Independent newspaper, Jones became internationally popular with the publication of a novel based upon the character, Bridget Jones's Diary, which was adapted as a popular movie and followed by a sequel novel.[source needed]
