Is the ninth doctors screwdriver different from the ones used by the tenth in his earlier adventures? The ninth doctor's seems to emit a small beam of light/energy when in use, most notable in rose and world war three. However this is not seen in other episodes such as parting of the ways and when the tenth doctor uses it in Christmas invasion, it does not emit the light either. Why is this? --Coop3 22:01, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

In-story, Ten keeps the same sonic as Nine until it gets fried in Smith and Jones. All New Series sonics have a bulb that lights up at the end when it activates. In production, the sonic may light up or not due to a faulty prop or due to other lights or glares or the angle of the camera obscuring the light from view. Also, the brightness of the light likely depends on, as above, the angle relative to the camera, other surrounding lights, and/or the lens filter being used or other post-production special effects. —BioniclesaurKing4t2 - "Hello, I'm the Doctor.
