Infinite Temporal Flux

Time travel is using the universe's grand unified field to warp and fold time itself. Because of the involvement of this universal field, all time travel not only involves a warping of the space-time continuum but also a fundamental alteration of reality itself on a universal scope. In all instances of time travel travel, from the most massive object to the smallest particle, reality is immediately modified universe-wide. This altering of reality means the laws of physics and even causality simply don't apply in the time travel process. That means history can be changed and paradoxes can occur. Time is, therefore, a flexible medium. It can be compared to an elastic membrane that will yield if pushed, but will spring back once its limits are reached to return to equilibrium. There is an infinite temporal flux wherein time essentially 'absorbs' a paradox and an original timeline essentially fades away to be replaced by an altered timeline. However, a temporal paradox of sufficient size will create a kind of "wound" in time. That's when time's own sort of immune system kicks in. Creatures known as "reapers" arrive from the Time Vortex, flood in and sterilize the wound, destroying both the source of the paradox and everything else in the vicinity. Once the cause of the paradox has been removed, things generally go back to normal. Back when the Time Lords were still around, it was pretty easy to keep things in order, since they were actively out there helping to repair paradox and keeping the universe running.
