The Seventh Segment was a Fourth Doctor comic strip released in the Doctor Who Magazine Summer Special 1995.

Summary

The tracer brings the Doctor, Romana and K9 to the politically corrupt colony world of Vyga 3. The Doctor’s arrival results in his possession of a briefcase which two gangs are desperate to get their hands on. The gangs believe the briefcase contains a secret weapon and agree to work together. Leaving the briefcase and making an escape to the TARDIS, the Doctor and Romana watch on the scanner as the case is opened. It releases a fluctuating chronon which rapidly degenerates those in close proximity. The Black Guardian's trap is foiled.

Characters

  • Boss - Gangster determined to retrieve a briefcase containing secrets stolen from the wasteland labs.
  • Fluctuating chronon wave - a devastating wave which expels a lot of energy over a short range, over a short period of time. The effect of accelerating time so rapidly, is to give off enormous heat that ages to death and burns anything in its immediate range. Fortunately the wave is soon dispersed. A fluctuating chronon wave was encapsulated in a briefcase and was planted on Vyga 3 by the Black Guardian in an attempt to stop the Doctor in his quest to recover the Key to Time. The wave device was powerful enough to register with the tracer device given to the Doctor in order to locate the various segments.
  • Sneech, Mr - henchman of the Boss on Vyga 3, assigned to retrieve a briefcase containing material from the labs in the wasteland. Destroyed when the material turned out to be a fluctuating chronon wave was released, along with Yanski and Phaedra with whom he formed a temporary alliance against the Doctor.
  • Yanski (male) and Phaedra (female) - Partners in crime and rivals to the Boss on Vyga 3, determined to retrieve a briefcase containing secrets stolen from the wasteland labs and accidentally stolen by the Doctor. They were destroyed when the material turned out to be a fluctuating chronon wave was released, along with Mr Sneech with who they had formed a temporary alliance to defeat the Doctor.
