Welcome to the Tardis:About Master of Spiders

Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Wow!

Wow! Thank you for making fun of my ethnicity! Excuse me while I visit my friend Czech! OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 16:31, February 11, 2013 (UTC)

Wow! Thanks for doing it again! Excuse me while I report you a second time for your multiple examples on personal attacks towards me! :) OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 15:17, February 12, 2013 (UTC)

Apologise

I would advice that you apologise to OS25 due to the recent comments you left on his talk page - they were completely uncalled for. I don't know if he has said anything to you that may be a personal attack - but if he has, point me to it and I'll look into it.

In the meantime, for the sake of yourself more than anything, please just apologies and clear the air - it will make the discussion on Totem (short story) much easier, as there will be no bad blood. Many thanks. MM/Want to talk? 00:07, February 13, 2013 (UTC)

"No personal attacks" violation

A complaint has been issued against you, claiming that you violated our ban on personal attacks when you suggested that OttselSpy25 might not have the English skills necessary to understand your nuanced use of English adjectives.

Because NPA is perhaps our most important single policy, I'm obliged to take action on it and report my findings to both you and OS. I have spent much of the last two days investigating your interactions with OS.

I believe that you intended no malice, and that you made a logical deduction based upon information in OS' public profile. Therefore, I do not believe that you violated our ban on personal attacks in this instance. I do think, however, that it's socially risky to make an assessment about someone's English language abilities. Pursuing that line of thought almost always ends in disaster, with the other party having hurt feelings. It is typically best to just avoid any comments about your conversants' English language skills. Even if they truly do speak English as a second language, they'll likely get defensive if you accuse them of not quite understanding them. It's probably a better idea just to phrase things simply, without metaphor, and try again.

Now, having said that I do not think that you violated our rules on the initial complaint, there's no doubt you did later. This diff shows that you made disparaging comments directly against the person. You weren't attacking his position at all — just him. Because you didn't attack him with foul language, I'm gonna let this one slide. Be aware however that both Tangerineduel and I take the no personal attacks ban very seriously, and your next violation may result in stronger action.

Finally, you should be aware that I am not particularly happy with either you or OS over the conduct of the debate at Talk:Totem (short story). Both you and he seem to have extremely short fuses. I hope you will be able to find a way to reset your combined anger and come to a more civil meeting of the minds.

Please remember that ALL CAPS are heavily discouraged in discussions, as they are almost always seen as shouting. If you wish to suggest emphasis, please use bold or italics, instead. I also think that you made the key error of editing the page while it was under discussion. This infuriates people round here, and can — in my view, understandably — make them immediately attack you. Furthermore, you are far, far too aggressive throughout the Totem discussion.

That said, I feel the need to make it perfectly clear that OS is not a member of the administrative team here, and that he doesn't speak for the wiki. You are of course very welcome to edit here, so long as you don't violate our policies. It saddens me to see that you were greeted so harshly in the discussion, even if I understand the reason for the initial anger. OS has been warned against such behaviour in future. While I don't personally agree with many of your statements on that page, I do think you should have been treated much more civilly, and hope you will continue trying to improve Short Trips story pages.

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
