Starman

I was wondering if you could help me with something. I'm working on The Beast of Babylon right now and the main enemy is Starman (The Beast of Babylon). However, his species is also a Starman, so I created Starman (species) and that's when I realized that there was also a David Bowie song called Starman. I put a speedy rename request on that to change it to Starman (song) and since there's now three Starman pages, I know we'll also need a disambiguation page.

However, the Ninth Doctor also refers to another Starman that he encountered and trapped in the twenty-sixth dimension and by doing so inadvertently created the Starman (The Beast of Babylon). So how would I label a page for the Starman that's trapped in the twenty-sixth dimension, since they are both referenced in The Beast of Babylon, but only one can have that page name? Mewiet 18:20, November 9, 2013 (UTC)

All right, thank you!
And if it helps, I already did a WhatLinksHere search and there was only one Starman link on the David Bowie page, which I already changed (because it was suggested to do so on the speedy rename instruction page, if there were fewer than ten links). The only other link that now exists is the one in my last set of comments when I was explaining the Starman page issue. Mewiet 18:59, November 9, 2013 (UTC)
I was just thinking, the main enemy Starman is sometimes referred to as the Beast or the Great Beast by ancient Babylonians. He has no official name though and he's mainly referred to as the Starman, with the Beast and the Great Beast coming in as the next most used nicknames, respectively. (In the very latter part of the text.) I'm not sure how acceptable either of those would be though, since they aren't what he's primarily referred to as. But I guess it's something that could be considered since this is unique situation. But I can definitely work with your suggestion until something's decided. :) Mewiet 01:51, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

Request for the Doctor Who Page

Hey, I found this picture of a British Paper from 1963 talking about Doctor Who as an upcoming television series. The article was written 2 days before the premiere of An Unearthly Child

Fingers are crossed that they find more lost episodes... I'm re-watching the classic series (still on season 1) and it's a shame that Marco Polo was never recovered.. which is peculiar because out of all the missing episodes, it was broadcast in the largest number of foreign stations. If we find another episode.. I'm putting my bet on this episode. ...That is if you truly believe they didn't find it in Nigeria..

This Just In

Thought you might wanna look at this. This is information released to the public on the Doctor Who Archive yesterday, and according to the site this is a reliable source. I really wish they'd tell us what the damn source was once in a while.. but like you said we have to keep hope.

Full story here: [1]

Information has been provided to DWA which apparently provides a list of what episodes were recovered. This list was allegedly posted online in June of this year and comes from a very good source (not the original poster, if indeed there was one). Certain aspects of this article were amended following an objection from a concerned party, the alleged original poster. We of course apologise for any distress caused. The list remains the same. As ever this should all be taken as rumour at this stage, this time however we will be passing comment given the claims of the source. Someone has intiated a protocol banning the war doctor from doctors in infoboxs

I am trying to add the war doctor to doctors in the infobox of the day of the doctor also another of multi doctor specials have refused to have the non current doctor under doctor

I sugges this shall be rectified 18:06, November 25, 2013 (UTC)

Per the discussion policy, all talk from the page "The Curator (Day of the Doctor)" needs to be removed. You removed my contribution, yet leave others thoughts on there when they are narrative discussions as mine also was. Either enforce it for everyone, or no one.

Re:

This isn't what Czech has said on the same page. In fact, he suggests the opposite: "...replacing murky language that was written as if this were an in-universe language. we can speak in a normal voice on a story page." Now, you may prefer it to be in-universe, but there is no rule saying that this must be so, and when trying to write a point on a story page in a way that connects this to another story page, out-of-universe points are by far more effective. TV story pages are to be written in an out-of-universe fashion, no matter the section. Now, I don't wish to start an edit war, but based on Czech's higher jurisdiction judgment, I will now be moving that point back. Paulisthewalrus 00:32, November 29, 2013 (UTC)

Capaldi talk page

Could we have the talk page for Peter Capaldi unlocked, please? Talk pages must never be locked anyway because that's where people can request changes be made. For example, the use of the phrase "wordless" in describing Capaldi's appearance in DOTD is debateable as there are published reviews in reputable media that have indicated it is Capaldi saying the words "No, sir, all 13". Even if this is not the case, this needs to be indicated in the article. There may well be other corrections worthy of suggestion. Locking the main article is no problem, but talk pages should never be locked down. Thanks. 68.146.70.124talk to me 13:44, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Unblocked. For future reference, any page can be protected if an admin thinks it is necessary. Shambala108 16:37, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Russel

Yes, I did find that out shortly afterwards. Despite this, John Guilor still has played Doc #1 twice as much. Paulisthewalrus 15:09, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Forum Post

Sorry about the putting that post in the wrong place. That was my first post in the forums. Digitized since 95 Pcthomas2 18:06, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks I know about the no spoiler policy and I thought at the time I was in the right place. I've reposted that post in the Howling and I hope we can reach a verdict that will get that big plot hole plugged. Digitized since 95 Pcthomas2 18:26, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Silver Nemesis

How do you suggest Silver Nemesis be edited to account for the lizard not being a chameleon? Without referencing chameleons it's hard to say why it makes the Doctor think of cloaking devices. Would you rather I just edit it to "lizard" and destroy the chameleon reference altogether, or put it down as a production error that the lizard isn't a chameleon? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.70.193.241 (talk).

After a bit of thinking, I came up with something like this (and feel free to change it however it needs to fit in the surrounding text): "The Doctor spots a lizard hiding in plain sight against foliage, and realizes the Cyber fleet is shrouded." This doesn't sound like too much speculation, and it doesn't have to be a chameleon to make the Doctor think of camouflage. Shambala108 23:10, December 7, 2013 (UTC)
Well, it's not the best camouflage, but it was hidden under a root moments before, so how about "The Doctor sees a lizard emerge from hiding and realises that the Cyber fleet is shrouded."? (Sorry I'm not signing, I don't edit often! Was just checking this wiki's story notes as I went on a Doctor Who spree for the 50th and came across the error.)The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.70.193.241 (talk).
Sounds good to me. Shambala108 00:25, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I was just wondering why you changed the Rose Tyler profile image back to the original. I think my one's better, don't you? --11japete 15:02, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Front Page

Hi I'm the admin of Simpsons Wiki and we've taken a liking to some of the coding of this wiki. We were wondering if you were willing to share some of coding/templates to help us out (we won't copy directly and will make considerable changes to suit our overall aesthetic), but we'd really appreciate it if you could start us in the right direction.

Spoilers?

I just wanted to ask a question about the spoiler policy: Does the spoiler policy specifically forbid mentioning titles of future stories? I was under the impression that it only forbid adding in-universe info and behind-the-scenes production info. Thanks for your time. --Bold Clone 20:19, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

Blocking

When entering blocking rationales please don't forget to give a working link to the pages on which offending material can be found. Almost all block rationales are worded so as to point readers to specific pages. Thanks :)

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
