A Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish coming of age ceremony for young teenage boy. The ceremony typically took place when the boy turned 13 and after it was completed, he was considered responsible for his own actions in regards to upholding Jewish religious laws. The comparable ceremony for girls was known as a Bat Mitzvah.
In 1938, River Song told a Nazi officer that she was on her way to a gay gypsy bar mitzvah for the disabled, flippantly referring to several groups that the Nazis considered "undesirable". (TV: Let's Kill Hitler)
