Fire Island was an island on New Earth. In 5,000,000,041, Thomas and Valerie Brannigan left Battery Park in New New York for the Motorway, thinking they could take a chance with the "jobs going" in the laundries on Fire Island. By 5,000,000,053, they had just passed Pharmacytown. (TV: Gridlock)

In the real world, Fire Island is the name of an island in Suffolk County on Long Island in New York state outside the real-world New York City on Earth. The dialogue in Gridlock does not specify whether the Fire Island on New Earth is outside New New York.
