Literature by author is for organising in-universe pages about works of literature according to the — again, in-universe — person who wrote them. All sub-categories should be in the format, "Works written by <author's name>". However, each subcategory should be sorted by the last name of the author.

For instance, on the page category:Works written by Charles Dickens, you should place the following statement:

[[Category:Literature by author|Dickens]]

Note that this category doesn't distinguish between types of article. Whether it's a short story, a play, a novel or an article in a periodical, it all goes into the same sub-category.
