Buena Vista Park was a park in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. According to Jessica Willamy, it was a part of "the arty quarter" of the Haight, since writers Ambrose Bierce and Jack London had both lived nearby at one time. In at least 1967, it was proximate to the home used by "the Grateful Dead and their extended family".

In January of that year, Jess, Ben, Polly and the Second Doctor crashed a party at the house of a local witch called Mathilda. Her grand, old house was, said Jess, no more than "a stone's throw" from the park. (PROSE: Wonderland)

Behind the scenes

This San Francisco landmark is the least well-described part of Haight-Ashbury in Wonderland. It's the southeast corner of the neighbourhood — that is, southeast of the Haight and Ashbury intersection. The Panhandle runs the whole length of the northern border, and Golden Gate Park is the western edge, completely opposite of Buena Vista.
