The Atlantic Ocean was an Earth ocean that bordered North America, South America, Europe, and Africa.

Historical events

Distant past

Circa 4 billion BC, the area of Earth that would later become the middle of the Atlantic was a vast, rocky wasteland. (DW: City of Death)

Modern era

19th century

While crossing the Atlantic in 1872, the Mary Celeste encountered first the Doctor and the TARDIS and then the Daleks, abandoning ship to escape the latter. The mysteriously abandoned ship passed into legend. (DW: The Chase)

Other explanations have been given to explain the mystery. (DWA: The Mystery of the Marie Celeste, TVC: A Stitch in Time) (However, as these both refer to a ship called Marie Celeste, not Mary Celeste, it is possible that it might be a different ship altogether.)

20th century

In 1912, the RMS Titanic was crossing the Atlantic when it famously hit an iceberg and sank. (NA: The Left-Handed Hummingbird)

In 1915, during World War I, the Doctor's TARDIS materialised on a ship crossing the Atlantic which was shortly hit by a German torpedo and sank. (BFA: The Sirens of Time)

The Doctor's TARDIS landed on the Queen Mary in 1963. (TN: Ghost Ship)
