Ernie Wright was a London butcher.
While going home with Lil Nuttall, they were attacked by a Charrl that killed Lil. The Seventh Doctor was able to convince Constable Reggie Hawkins that Ernie was innocent of the murder. (PROSE: Birthright)
Behind the scenes
It is implied by the Doctor's comments that Ernie is the grandfather of either Barbara Wright or Polly Wright. In an interview with the author, he confirmed that Barbara was his granddaughter. [1]
