Fishy Fingers: Evolution from Sea to Land was, according to its author, Dougal Dunnock, a "best-selling and revolutionary scientific treatise". The Tenth Doctor recognised Dougal Dunnock from its dust jacket. Professor Dunnock based his conclusions in the book on studying the fossils of the species that Mervin the Missing Link belonged to. After buying Mervin the Missing Link, Professor Dunnock realised that the conclusions he made in his book were all wrong. Unwilling to continue pushing false theories, but equally unwilling to tarnish his reputation, Dunnock ended his career. (PROSE: The Last Dodo)
