Rumours

  • This story may feature the Ood.
  • Being Mars, this might relate to the Ice Warriors or possibly the Sycorax, or the waters of mars may be sentient.
  • More references to the Ice Warriors appearing by the companion Adelaide asking someone unknown at the start " State you name, rank and intention" and with individual Ice Warriors having ranks this may tie into their appearance.
  • This episode may feature a water-based villain as shown in the trailer.
  • The episode appears to be set in some kind of bio-dome filled with vegetation
  • David Tennant has been spotted while filming wearing a space suit identical to that of "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" hinting that it takes places roughly in the same time period. Spotting of an Ood also supports this theory.
  • This story will likely be set on the planet Mars, as indicated by the title.
  • The cloister bell is heard ringing in the teaser; it's unclear if it will be heard in the story or is just used as part of the teaser soundtrack.

Story Notes

  • As Lindsay Duncan has been cast as a companion, she is the oldest actor to play a companion since the beginning of the series, although this title will be taken away from her in the next episode when Bernard Cribbins becomes the Doctor's companion.

Filming Locations

  • Victoria Place, Newport
  • National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Carmarthenshire
