Jonathan Pryce played the Master in The Curse of Fatal Death, a spoof produced by the BBC in the 1990s for Comic Relief. He reportedly auditioned for the role of the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 TV movie. He was in the final ten, but was turned down in favour of Paul McGann.[source needed]

Among his film roles: villain Eliot Carver in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, Governor Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Mr Dark in Something Wicked This Way Comes and Sam Lowry in Brazil. In 2007 Pryce played Sherlock Holmes in the television serial Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars, opposite Bill Paterson as Dr. Watson.
