There are several planet categories used on the Tardis Data Core, the Doctor Who universe Wiki, most planets that are present on this wiki will usually be categorised further down into subcategories of Category:Planets category. It is preferable to have as few planets within the main Planets category as possible, however some cannot be sorted into subcategories.

This is a guide to the major sub-categories found within the the Planets category of this wiki to give a clearer idea of the categories and to allow for greater utilisation of the subcategories when editing articles.

Colony planets

This category contains planets which were were designated colonies for a planet or species. It includes the subcategory Human colonies, such as Kaldor, They're All Nouns You Idiot and Auros

There are also colony planets included within the main Colony planets category which include; Karn and Nova Martia.

Planets by location

E-Space planets

This subcategory includes planets located within E-Space such as Alzarius and Terradon.

Mutter's Spiral planets

This category includes three subcategories; Gallifrey, Mutter's Spiral star systems and Sol System planets.

This category also includes planets stated to be within the Mutter's Spiral such as Ruta III, Hoopla IV and Capella Four.

Planets from the real world

This category is for planets stated as existing within the Doctor Who universe and that are known to exist within the 'real world' it includes two subcategories; Earth and Mars.

This category also includes planets such as; Pluto, Venus and Jupiter.

Planets visited by the Doctor

The Planets visited by the Doctor category contains within it separate sub-categories for all the Doctors. This category and subsequent sub-categories have planets which the Doctor has visited, be it that he's seen visited or said to have visited.

There also also some planets in the main Planets visited by the Doctor category, these planets are planets identified as having visited by the Doctor, though which incarnation is not specific. Planets such as Dronid, Benelisa and Ty are within this category.

Planets by type

This category covers types of planets rather than specific planets. This category includes subcategories:

There are also specific planet types within the Planets by type category these include; Holiday world, Leisure planet and Breeding planet.

Planets with their own sub-category

These are planets that have their own article, but also their own sub-category within the Planets category, this is due to them having significant articles that are related to that planet, these planets/subcategories are;

Other sub-categories of Planets category

There are other sub-categories of the planets category that aren't specifically planets but are connected to the planet category structure.
