Tannenberg

Tannenberg was a battle fought during World War I. General Hindenberg commanded the Germans during the battle. Colonel Schott served in the battle and, along with his later efforts in the Battle of the Somme where he was wounded, was awarded a Iron Cross, First Class. (PROSE: Illegal Alien)

Behind the scenes

In real life, the Battle of Tannenberg was an Eastern Front battle fought between the Germans and the Russians in 1914 near Allenstein. Tannenberg is the German name for the Polish town of Stębark. Although the battle did not take place there, the victorious Germans named the battle after Tannenberg for propaganda purposes. How much of this information remains true in the DWU is unclear as Illegal Alien only makes a fleeting reference to it.
